Join Petwell Supply in Reducing Waste

Did you know that you can recycle your old pet products at Petwell Supply?
Together with Terracycle’s Zero Waste Box program, we can take steps to pave the path to a greener, cleaner, and healthier planet. In our store, you’ll find two boxes: one for old pet products and one for pet food packaging. In our pet products box you can drop off toys, chews, tugs, clippers, bedding, leashes, collars, muzzles, brushes, food bowls, and grooming/bathing product packaging. Our pet food packaging box was made specifically for pet food, treats, and vitamin packaging.
How does it work?
All you need to do is bring in your old pet products and drop them in the appropriate box. Once our boxes are full, we’ll send them to Terracycle where every product will be properly reused, recycled, or upcycled. And as a bonus, every time you bring your old pet products in, you’ll receive either a free tennis ball or ounce of catnip!
The Process:
Terracycle Zero Waste Box program offers boxes for many types of products including (but not limited to) batteries, automotive parts, art supplies, baby products, bathroom products, cigarettes, electronics, wine bottle corks, and even used chewing gum and hair! Rather than dumping so many different products into one box, this helps Terracycle efficiently streamline their recycling process.
Once Terracycle receives a box, it is brought to the appropriate facility where all products are then separated by fabrics, fibers, metals, and plastics, all of which go through their own process:
• Fabrics: either reused or recycled as appropriate
• Fibers: (i.e. paper or wood products) recycled or composted
• Metals: melted, then recycled
• Plastics: extruded or pelletized to be molded into new plastic products
These materials are then used to create items like backpacks, shoes, shower curtains, gardening supplies, office supplies, and more. Terracycle even has most of their recycled products available for purchase online.
Why Recycle?
When waste products are not reused, recycled, or upcycled, they end up in landfills or incinerators. This only allows waste to move in a linear cycle that destroys the ecosystem over time. Terracycle puts it best:
Over the past 100 years, the amount of waste that humanity produces has increased by almost 10,000 percent. Of that staggering volume, it is estimated that 25 percent ends up in our oceans, forming five gigantic gyres of garbage. Since only a small percentage gets recycled the majority is effectively mummified in landfills, leaching out methane and other toxic outputs over time. If it is not buried, it is typically burned in incinerators. While a very small percentage of incinerators do produce some energy as an output, in the process they also destroy all possible value except the caloric (or energy) value inherent in the materials. It is not an easy or inexpensive process to recycle so many types of products that typically end up in our garbage cans. The economics of waste is a broken system that Terracycle aims to fix by making recycling easy and affordable for everyone.
